Grandma’s Pork Ribs Recipe -Sườn Nướng Của Bà Ngoại

Recipe edited: 2/8/2017

My little foodie is very picky when it comes to eating meat.  I recall a time when she visited Grandma in Texas and was chewing on my mom’s homemade pork ribs crazily.  So I asked Mom for her recipe. I figured if I call and annoy Mom enough, she would make this at home and measure out her ingredients for me since she always eyeball everything.  Let me walk you through the recipe! I hope you enjoy my Mom’s pork ribs as much as my little munchkin does.

3 lb of pork ribs
1 Tbsp Shaohsing cooking wine
1/2 Tbsp kosher salt
4 garlic cloves
2 Tbsp Golden Mountain soy sauce
1 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp chicken powder
honey to brush on meat

1.      Rinse meat. Rub pork ribs with 1 Tbsp Shaohsing cooking wine and then with 1/2 Tbsp kosher salt. Set aside for an hour in the fridge.

Important note:  Mom said to use a paper towel to “pat” off the excess cooking wine and salt after you rub it on both sides of the meat evenly.  I didn’t think it would matter.  My second time making this, I skipped this part and my daughter didn’t like it. The meat were salty in some parts.

2.  Prepare the marinade sauce
     Set aside minced garlic.

Mix the following together:
2 Tbsp Golden mountain soy sauce
     1 Tbsp sugar
     1  tsp black pepper
     1/2 tsp chicken powder

3.  Rub the pork ribs with minced garlic.

4.  Then marinate pork ribs with the marinade for at least 30 minutes.

4.  Cover the pork ribs with foil.  Bake for about one hour and 15 minutes at 300 degrees.

5.  When meat is done, remove foil.  Brush the top with honey generously.  Broil for 5 minutes.

6.  Flip on the other side, brush with honey again and broil for another 5 minutes.

7.  Transfer meat onto plate and pour the dripping sauce into a small bowl.  Drizzle the sauce over the meat and jasmine rice when ready to serve.

Behind the scene:

Oopsie!  Someone splattered the marinade onto mommy’s cabinet while she was rubbing the marinade onto the meat.  Unbelievable.
