My Dream Atemoya Tree

Growing my Dream atemoya documentary started in 2022 and ended on August 28, 2024, in Oviedo, Florida Zone 10A.

8/28/24: I sold my Dream atemoya to Priyam P. in Orlando, Florida. She and her mom came to dug it out today.

My Dream atemoya has big beautiful foilage. The tree is very very healthy, but the flowering and fruit production is just so poor compared to Geffner, Priestley, African Pride, and PPC atemoya in my garden. It’s in a ground and if it doesn’t flower and fruit as much, then it’s just a waste of space for my tiny yard space.

I planted this Dream in the ground three years ago when it was just a grafted branch about three-feet tall in a 3-gallon size pot. As you can see, the root ball of the atemoya is not very deep. During windy storms in hurricane season, the tree has toppled over several times. My husband had to help me stake the tree.

The Dream atemoya starting flowering for the first time last year in 2023. This year, it gave me the first fruit ever. Unfortunately, I accidently broke off the little fruit when it was about pinky finger size. 😭

How does a Dream Atemoya taste like?

Well, I got a chance to finally taste the Dream Atemoya from my friend, Leaph. The fruit size wasn’t as big as PPC and Geffner. It has a lot of seeds. Dream resembles more like the sugar apple parentage than cherimoya. It is sweet, non-gritty, with a slight chewy texture. The flesh isn’t has meaty as the PPC atemoya. It’s a good atemoya to eat, but as for growing experience, I don’t recommend it if you have limited space for only fruit trees that you like that has high fruit production well also.
