Growing and Reviewing Water Spinach documentary created 5/1/25 , updated 5/1/25, and ended (TBD).

I am so determined to grow a consistent quantity of water spinach for a weekly harvest this summer.
Seed Sources:
These are the seed sellers I purchased my four water spinach varieties from. These seeds are part of my $1 seed packet deals to help me split up the out of pocket cost. Each seed packet contains 50 seeds. Refer to my seeds for sale inventory to place your seed order from the Shop tab on my blog.

Four Water Spinach Varieties
- WS1. Large Leaf water spinach
- WS2. Small Leaf water spinach
- WS3. Triple Stem water spinach
- WS4. White Stem water spinach
Growing Info:
Water spinach is a water-loving summer crop that needs full sun to grow well.
Water spinach can be propagated by stem cuttings. Since I wanted to know the specific variety I am growing and reviewing, I grew from seeds. I sow two to three seeds per 3.5-inch Bootstrap Farmer seedling pots and transplant when there are two sets of leaves.

I transplanted my water spinach seedlings into 5.5-inch Bootstrap Farmer seedling pots.

I transplanted some water spinach seedlings into 14x14x6-inch square pots with one drainage hole. I did cover the drainage hole with a layer of coco coir to prevent soil from falling out.

i am going to try to grow water spinach in a small plastic kiddie pool I bought from Walmart for less than $7. The pool is about 8 inches high. I would still 1 inch holes near the top of the rim about three inches down for water drainage so that the rain water would not flood the pool and create a breeding place for mosquitos. I might drill one drainage hole in the center bottom.

I fill the pool with Miracle Grow organic compost potting soil with a blend of coarse perlite, worm casting, and bone meal.

Culinary Uses
Water spinach is a very common Southeast Asian vegetable. The vegetable is used for stir fry and in soups. In authentic Chinese restaurants, you can often find a plate of water spinach stir fry with black bean garlic sauce for at least $15! I refused to order this simple stir fry vegetable dish at restaurants.
In authentic Vietnamese restaurants, water spinach is often served as an essential vegetable added to bún riêu, canh bún, and vịt nấu chao hot pot style. Below are some recipes I have documented with the use of water spinach. Just type in the name of the recipe in the search box in my blog for the recipe.
