2/3/24: I have been waiting for months to visit this nursery and finally had the chance to do so today to pick up a fruit tree but ended up buying three trees. I got a “Sugar Belle” citrus tree (not the same as the “Honey Bell”), a Lemon Bay Rum tree, and a grafted Bell starfruit tree. (I will be documenting the life cycle and growth progress of these trees on my blog.)

Highlights:
1. Rob and Xain both are very friendly and informative.

2. Lemon Bay Rum:
Don’t laugh but I just learned the laurel bay leaves I used in cooking are not the same as these Lemon bay rum leaves today. I learned that the Lemon Bay Rum leaves have a very citrus lemony scent that when cut into pieces and boiled in water, can create a delightful tea. The leaves are great in curry too. My friend and I are mesmerized by the wonderful scent of these leaves. I must add it to my edible plant collection.
Rob let me smell the scent of the original bay rum tree and it was not appealing or attractive. He said for every hundreds of bay rum trees grow from seedlings, there would be a few seedling trees that would produce the lemony scent. So he and Xain would go to the bay rum farm and pick leaves from each seedling tree to sniff out the Lemon Bay Rum seedling trees.

3. Xain said there are at least 14 different jackfruit varieties for sale at his nursery.

4. Xain has two types of red fingering lime trees, UF Sum and UF Red. I was tempted to get the UF Red because although the lime fruits are smaller about two to three inches long, the fruit hardly have any seeds.

5. Xain loves collecting variegated edible and non edible plants.

6. Xain spent some time to give my friend and I a private tour of his world or food forest. I do not think he noticed I am a terrible listener. 😂 He has a tall jackfruit tree that I didn’t pay attention to when he said it is a jackfruit tree. I was just fascinated watching him climbing up the tall tree so quickly like a chimpanzee within seconds! I wish I had that on video to show you folks how fast he could climb up his jackfruit tree.

That is all folks! Until next time…
Note: Like the saying goes, the more one talk, the less I remember. The less one talk, the more I remember. All I remember is that the red thing I was holding in my hand are fresh pods of annato seeds. Can’t remember much what Xain told me during the private food forest tour except he told me he is twenty-years-old, still single, and loves to collect variegated plants.
