Baked Blue Mackerel – Cá Thu Nướng Sả

  • Prep & Bake within 30 minutes
  • Serving: 6-9 pieces
  • I used a Cuisineart Air Fryer to bake the fish
  • I purchased the Blue Mackerels at Lotte Plaza Market in Orlando, Florida

I was just playing with my spices to make a quick dish for my family. It turned out simple, quick, and delicious. This baked blue mackerel was so good that my neighbor asked for the recipe. So I might as well document the recipe to help me remember how I cook it. This pictorial is for sweet foodie neighbor, Guy. =)

Ingredients:

  • 3 Blue Mackerels (2.5 lb after I cleaned and cut into pieces)
  • 1 Tbsp lemongrass powder or 1/2 cup fresh finely minced lemongrass
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp paprika powder
  • Black pepper to preference

Directions:

1. Clean and cut the fish: I didn’t have the fishmonger at the market clean the Blue Mackerels for me because it’s easy to clean at home. The fish has no scales so all I had to do is cut the fins and heads off and gut it. Mom said to make sure to slit the blood vein and rinse it off so it doesn’t have a fishy smell after cooking the mackerels. After prepping and cleansing the fish, I cut each fish into two or three 3-inches long pieces.

2. Rub the Blue Mackerel fish with the following ingredients evenly:

  • 1 Tbsp lemongrass powder or 1/2 cup fresh finely minced lemongrass
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika powder
  • Black pepper to preference

3. Then place the Blue Mackerel into the Cuisenart Air Fryer. Set function to Conventional Bake and bake for 15 minutes for 375F.

4. Serve with steamed sushi rice, mix Asian greens, and Vietnamese sweet and sour fish sauce. Enjoy!
