Little man: “Mommy, why do some adults like to curse when they talk?”
(As nurturing parents, how do you respond to that question?)
Me: Because some people lack the adequate vocabulary to express their feelings.
Little man: “Why do you not allow us to use curse words?”
Me: Because English like any other language, can be a beautiful and meaningful language when you use proper vocabulary to express your feelings. English can also be a very trashy, dirty, mean, rude, and hurtful language when people substitute it with curse words or profanity.
This is why I expect you to do well in a school and read a lot to expand your vocabulary, knowledge, and be aware of life, people, and surroundings around you. Our words and actions always leave an impression whether good or bad to the listeners.

When I was in sixth grade, there was a time I thought cursing was a cool thing to do. I used to dress up like a boy and talk like a boy since my friends are mainly boys. I didn’t know any better until I started noticing how hurtful and sad my mom was whenever my dad cursed at her. Mom never cries in front of my brother and me, but I can hear her crying through the hollow wall that separated her room from my bedroom. I quit using profanity ever since.
I hope and pray to God to help guide my children to the direct path and become respectful, educated, and mature adults when they grow up.
