Oviedo, FL, Zone 10A: This is an on-going visual documentary of my ‘High Fragrance’ camellia. Camellias are frost-tolerant perennial flowering plant. Some varieties have a fragrant like this ‘High Fragrance’ camellia. I am on a quest to train and shape it into a dwarf tree shape.
2/8/26: I bought my ‘High Fragrance’ camellia from Orlando Outdoor Market located next to Central Florida Fair in Orlando, Florida. This marker opens on the weekends in the early morning from 7AM to around 3PM. The elderly sellers usually pack up to go home around noon so come early for the good plant deals.
2/15/26: The January freezing nights killed many of my plants so I took out my dying atemoya tree and replaced it with this frost hardy camellia as my main focal point at the front porch.
2/17/26: This camellia tree did not have a single trunk form; therefore, I am going to shape it into a multi-trunk tree shape by trimming off the side branches once or twice a year. I like to train my fruit trees and flowering trees into a tree shape with a well defined trunk so I can utilize the space on the ground around it to grow ground covers like loose leaf lettuces or edible snapdragons. Right now, I’m testing out Altari F1 daikons in this round bed and the seeds all sprouted!
To be updated the next time I give this ‘High Fragrance’ camellia a trim.
