Lettuce Types:
- bibb
- loose leaf
- romaine
- stem
Current lettuce varieties:
This is a list of the 21 current lettuce varieties I am growing in my garden. I have some favorites I will always grow every year and a few varieties I change out so I do not get bored growing lettuces.
Gatsbi Lettuce
Gatsbi F1 from Johnny’s Selected Seeds Company is a hybrid bibb lettuce. Gatsbi is small to medium size that can be spaced out by six inches part. It is compacted and short. The leaves are buttery. I like eating Gatsbi lettuces.
Speckled Lettuce
Jericho Lettuce
Jericho is a romaine type lettuce.

Growing Lettuces
Other lettuce growers I know commonly use the hydroponic system or hydroponic towers. That’s too fancy to grow lettuces for me. Those hydroponic towers I have saw are expensive. I have success growing lettuces by directing sowing into the ground, in raised beds, in 6-inch deep pots, and in my hanging pots on my vertical gardens. My favorite and easiest way to grow lettuces is sprinkling a ring of lettuce seeds around the base of my potted fruit trees in the 25-gallon pots and just let nature takes care the rest as I just make sure the pots are watered every two days.
Lesson I have learned about growing lettuces:
I learned not to dump the entire lettuce seeds in the packet into the little hole. My master gardener said “no more than four seeds in a hole”.
