1. How Our Documentary Started

3/3/24: Oviedo, Florida

Ethan: “Mẹ, đợi Bảo thây đồ rồi mẹ chụp hình Bảo đó!”
Mommy, wait for me to change clothes!

Me: “Uhh…Okay” (wondering what he is up to)

(Then five minutes later he showed up in his panda jumper.)

Ethan: “Okay, Mẹ có thể chụp hình Bảo với cây rau này rồi đó! Bảo thích rau này nè.”
Okay Mommy, you can take pictures of me with this herb. I like this herb (cilantro).

Then he started making all sorts of silly poses for me. 😂 This mama just had to go with the flow. Life is so full of surprises and unexpected plans with my little man around. So this marked the beginning of our journey documenting the life cycle of growing cilantro from seed to seed. Our journey just happened to start from the flowering stage of our cilantro herb. This is how our cilantro flowers look like on March 3, 2024.

3. General Information

English name: Well, after forty years of life, I learned that cilantro is the name of the leaves and the seeds of cilantro is called “coriander seeds”. No wonder I can’t find the seeds at the seed racker looking for “Cilantro”. 😂

Vietnamese name: rau ngò

Light requirement: full sun

Watering: at least 3 times a week

4. Planting in Ground versus in Pot

From last years experiences, I noticed cilantro grows well both in a pot and directly in the ground. If growing in a pot, I recommend using a container that is at least 6-inches deep and has good drainage holes.

Cilantro grows best when I grow multiple seedlings close together versus individual seedlings spread apart. The multiple plants growing together act as each other’s support system.

When growing individual cilantro plant apart, it tends to become leggy and topples over.
