Documenting our experiences making butterfly pea flower tea from the harvested flowers in our garden. My little chefs love watching the blue color change to pink when we add an acidic ingredient to the tea which is lime or lemon juice.
- 6-10 butterfly pea flowers
- 3 cups water
- sweetener (pure cane sugar, honey, or agave nectar)
- lemon or lime juice (optional)
Boil water. Pour hot water in a bowl. Add the butterfly pea flowers in. Let it steep and gradually watch the water turn blue. The more flowers used, the darker the blue. Sweeten the tea with sugar, agave nectar, or honey. Squeeze in some lime or lemon juice and watch the blue turns to purple or pink. Have fun experiencing with the little ones!
Our first time making this tea right when it’s bedtime. We used light brown sugar and added a bag of green tea to the mixture. Baby Ethan likes drinking this.
